Camber Sands near Rye is only 15 minutes from Tenterden, Miles of sandy beach and a gentle sea. The beach has parking and the village of Camber is very close for convenience shopping and has several pubs and restaurants.

Dungeness

Dungeness

Thirty minutes from Tenterden is the largest shale beach in the world; Dungeness.

The dunes of pebbles are designated a site of special scientific interest and many rare plants and birds can be found there and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds reserve there is ideal for visitors to see the variety of migrating birds which use Dungeness.

Bedgebury Forest

Begun as a private pinetum the forest was taken over by the Forestry Commission and is now is the South Easts premier recreational woodland. Hiking and cycling trails traverse the forest and there are cafes toilets and car parks and guided tours available. Begebury is 20 minutes deive from Tenterden www.bedgeburypinetum.org.uk

Rye

Rye

Rye is Tenterden's sister town in the Cinq Port federation. Built on a hill it still has some of the ancient citadel walls and fortifications from when it defended the UK from attack from the French. The picturesque old town within the walls is worth the 15 minute drive to visit on a day trip. Nearby to the west is Battle the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066
